Mark Winkler - jazz singer & lyricist

“Barbara Brighton has great ears and exceptional taste in choosing material and musicians. She has the musical chops to work as a wonderful liaison between the singer and musicians and comes up with great phrasing  ideas and is a first class musical problem solver (which comes in handy in the super charged atmosphere of a recording session). She creates a nurturing environment, while still keeping things moving along. The proof of the pudding is I’ve  just recorded my 10th album with her as my producer “The Rules Don’t Apply.” There’s no one better.”

Julie Kelly - jazz singer

“Producer Barbara Brighton gave me the kind of supportive experience that every artist is looking for but not everyone finds. She was an invaluable partner from the very beginning of my project. Her creative concepts and artistic collaboration regarding material and musicians all the way through to flawless advice in the studio when the clock was ticking, were invaluable! She has the uncanny ability to serve the individual artist’s needs, personality and skills. What a great time we had! Bravo Barbara.”

Judy Wexler - jazz singer

“Barbara Brighton produced three of my CDs, “Easy on the Heart,” “Dreams & Shadows,” and “Under A Painted Sky.” She has a wonderful aesthetic, great ears, and genuine sensitivity that helped to bring out and enhance my musical expression. She is well-respected on the jazz scene, knows the best players, and brilliantly hooked me up with Alan Pasqua as pianist and arranger for my first CD. Not only is she enthusiastic about each and every project, she is caring, dedicated, compassionate, and tireless — not to mention, a lot of fun to be around! I love her dearly as a fellow artist and a friend.”

Lauren White

“Barbara is the real deal. She has a great ear, fantastic musical taste, and was fully committed to our project. I would work with her anytime.”

Kate McGarry

“Musical Midwife”

Talley Sherwood - Tritone Recording

“Barbara Brighton has a great vibe in the studio and creates a great environment for the artist”

Mike Shapiro - drummer

“Barbara Brighton gets it from the top down. She has the intuition to keep the lyric and melody framed in the center of the portrait. That, for me, is the necessary aesthetic for the kind of records she produces. Barbara keeps the song in the song!”

Bob Sheppard - multi-reed instrumentalist

“Barbara is focused on detail and has the great ability to envision the bigger picture. Her musical instincts are right on target and always a pleasure to work with.”

Steve Haas - drummer

“I have had the pleasure of working with Barbara Brighton on two fantastic jazz projects. Barbara hires musicians knowing what they bring to the music table. She achieves her sound both musically and sonically, without getting in the way of the music’s natural progression. If you really want to hear her productions skills, just pick up any C.D she’s worked on. Her work speaks for itself.”

Jamieson Trotter - pianist & arranger

“Barbara makes great recordings. She knows how to leave space for the musicians in the studio to create in their special ways, and still she is able to bring out of them exactly what it is she envisions for a song. The way that she applies her psychological training to her communication with artists is simply artful. Everyone feels good at a Barbara Brighton session. Even neurotics. (I know, all artists are neurotic – so, all artists feel good, dig?)”

Dan Lutz - bassist

“Whenever Barbara calls me for a gig, I know it’s going to be ‘pro’ all the way. She’s always respectful, creative, fun, and inspiring! Her professionalism and drive for making good music continue to draw me to her projects. What’s more, her zeal for promoting and encouraging the students in jazz with the Young Artist Jazz Series, has kept the art-form alive and growing in Los Angeles and abroad! It’s always a pleasure to work with Barbara!”

Pat Kelley - guitarist

“Barbara has such positive energy that it is pure delight to work with her. I welcome the chance to participate in any projects with Barbara at the helm.”

Paulette McWilliams - singer

“Barbara Brighton is an incredible woman who is absolutely immersed in whatever she does. I’m beyond impressed with her ears for all things music and her sensibility. Her heart comes through from her expression of whatever is needed and you can bet it will always be uniquely designed around the artist she is producing. Her hands on approach never ends until the project is complete. Her ears are phenomenal!

I am hoping one day we will be blessed work together. We’ve spoke about it and I’m manifesting. Whatever artist that gets produced by Barbara is extremely blessed. What a great person!”

Larry Koonse - guitarist

“It is always a joy to work with Barbara on a project because she deeply understands the “give and take” that must be present between producer and performing musician. This kind of healthy mutual respect always facilitates inspired performances and imparts an organic quality to her work. At this point of her career she has assembled a world class stable of arrangers and musicians that know her aesthetic and can really bring an artist’s vision into being.”

Paul Tavenner, Owner and Engineer - Big City Recording Studio

Barbara is a great producer and a pleasure to work with because she’s a team player, a great communicator, and understands exactly what the artist she’s producing wishes to express.  Her varied professional background has equipped her with many tools that are very useful in the studio environment.  She brings in the right top talent for the project and let’s them do what they do, directing them only as necessary.  The end result is a creative, organic, beautiful work of musical art.

Gary Brumburgh. Jazz singer

If you are a singer seeking a five-star quality record producer with a clear vision and keen ear you can trust, look no further than Barbara Brighton. Thanks to her, my latest jazz release, “Moonlight,” has become the highpoint of my music career with great reviews, radio airplay and charting to back up my every word. A beautiful, give-and-take partnership, Barbara was involved in the total process … from the selection of songs and musicians to studio mixing and mastering. She knows it all! Thank you, Barbara!!!!

Jonathan Widran, JW Vibe

“One of the hippest and experienced jazz producers in Los Angeles…”

Travis Rogers, Jr., The Jazz Owl

“Producer extraordinaire Barbara Brighton…”

Kirk Silsbee, jazz writer

“As impresarios and presenters, women run jazz in Los Angeles.  And Barbara Brighton is one of the important ones who make it possible for the music to be heard in this town.”

Beverley Church Hogan - jazz singer

“Barbara Brighton came on board as my vocal producer for my “Can’t  Get Out Of This Mood” CD, and became such an intricate part of my CD journey so finding the right words to describe this woman that I admire, and love seem inadequate. She knew from day one what should be done in the recording studio. The sessions always went smoothly because her listening was spot on. It was such a creative pleasure working with her.”

Barbara Brighton Awarded Jazz Hero 2019 by Jazz Journalists Association

Barbara Brighton’s lifelong love of jazz has bloomed in advocacy and activism. She has provided an important Los Angeles performance showcase for student musicians, the Young Artist Jazz Series, for 23 years. Innumerable young players, including more than a few nationally known musicians, received their first public exposure on the Catalina Bar & Grill’s bandstand that Brighton has presided over. It’s no exaggeration to note that nearly all SoCal jazz musicians under 45 have participated in YAJS.
