Mark Winkler - jazz singer & lyricist
“Barbara Brighton has great ears and exceptional taste in choosing material and musicians. She has the musical chops to work as a wonderful liaison between the singer and musicians and comes up with great phrasing ideas and is a first class musical problem solver (which comes in handy in the super charged atmosphere of a recording session). She creates a nurturing environment, while still keeping things moving along. The proof of the pudding is I’ve just recorded my 10th album with her as my producer “The Rules Don’t Apply.” There’s no one better.”

Barbara Brighton Awarded Jazz Hero 2019 by Jazz Journalists Association
Barbara Brighton’s lifelong love of jazz has bloomed in advocacy and activism. She has provided an important Los Angeles performance showcase for student musicians, the Young Artist Jazz Series, for 23 years. Innumerable young players, including more than a few nationally known musicians, received their first public exposure on the Catalina Bar & Grill’s bandstand that Brighton has presided over. It’s no exaggeration to note that nearly all SoCal jazz musicians under 45 have participated in YAJS.
